Biography

Hamuko is a second-year transfer student at Gekkoukan High School and co-leader of the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (S.E.E.S.) along with her twin brother, Minato. A seemingly bright, chipper and energetic girl, she seems to be the polar opposite of her brother... however, this is only a ruse.

On a fateful night in 1999, the twins and their parents were involved in a fiery car accident on Moonlight Bridge during the Dark Hour. As they had the potential, Minato and Hamuko were able to escape - their parents, however, were not so lucky.

After moving to the dorm in Iwatodai, Hamuko and Minato soon awakened to their potential as Persona-users. When a particularly large and aggressive Shadow attacked them and Yukari on the roof, Minato instinctively used Yukari's dropped Evoker to summon his Persona. Despite not having fought herself, Hamuko insisted on accompanying the team to Tartarus on their later excursion. She proved to have no problem summoning her own Persona, and became an invaluable asset to the team due to her resourcefulness and Wild Card ability. As such, she was appointed co-leader, in charge of equipment and team management. Once Fuuka joined S.E.E.S., Hamuko was put in charge of a second Tartarus exploration team.

Unbeknownst to the pair, they were used on the night of their parents' death as seals for the personification of Death, who would later manifest itself as the persona Thanatos. This resulted in both twins awakening to the power of the Wild Card, ten years later.

During the final battle, Minato and Hamuko were once again used as seals for Death, absorbing Nyx inside themselves. As the burden was shared between the two, their lifeforce wasn't expended, and they avoided death; however, their lifespans were both greatly reduced as a result. The pair live on with the knowledge that their time in this world is very limited.

Being fairly diligent with her studies, Hamuko manages to consistently remain in the top 10 of her class.

Courage - Rank 4; Tough.
While not nearly as bold as her brother, Hamuko shows no hesitation when it comes to completing her objectives, whether that be eliminating a Shadow or defending her friends.

Charm - Rank 5; Queen Bee.
She's very charismatic and she knows it, sometimes even using it to her advantage. Always confident and cheerful, Hamuko has little trouble making friends.

Headcanons:
➣ Hamuko is bisexual, though she prefers men.

➣ The twins' birthday is September 30th.

➣ Hamuko's mp3 player and headphones were a gift from her brother. She carries them everywhere as two of her most prized possessions.

➣ She enjoys a great variety of types of music. Her favourites are punk rock and j-pop.

➣ She's a fairly clumsy dancer, but she enjoys it anyway.

➣ She loves flowers, with her favourites being sunflowers. These were her mother's favourites, as well.

➣ Hamuko is extremely competitive.

➣ She tends to overeat, and greatly enjoys food. She's a decent enough cook, though she can sometimes get... creative with the recipes.

➣ Hamuko is generally very polite and well-spoken, usually referring to people by their last name along with an honorific. Only when given express permission to do so will she refer to people by their first names.

➣ However, she addresses Junpei by first name only; it feels weird to be formal with him.

➣ Although Hamuko doesn't get angry very easily, when she does, she goes all out. Once she calms down, she'll usually get very depressed, blaming herself for losing control.

➣ She refers to her brother as "Minmin". He in turn refers to her as "Hammy", which she hates.

➣ Her main Persona is Orpheus; a contrast to her brother, who uses mainly Thanatos.

➣ Both Minato and Hamuko have access to the Velvet Room, as they both signed the contract upon entering the dorm. Minato is attended by Elizabeth, while Hamuko is attended by Theodore.

➣ The twins are fiercely protective of each other. Though Hamuko often teases Minato, she will be the first to stand up for him if anyone else tries to do the same.

➣ During elementary and middle school, Hamuko was often picked on and ostracized by other girls for her tomboyish demeanor. While she's become more 'girly' in high school, she still finds it easier to approach men rather than other girls.

➣ As a child, Hamuko had a large stuffed rabbit which she called "Mr BunBun". Unfortunately, she was forced to give it up due to strict orphanage restrictions. She still misses it, as it was one of the few things she had to remember her parents by.

➣ Though she takes her position as co-leader of SEES in stride, part of her is a little resentful of being seen with less authority than Minato, considering they share the same power.

➣ Despite how self-aware she is on other subjects, she is surprisingly clueless when it comes to romance, sometimes not even noticing when others attempt to flirt with her.

➣ Hamuko can be somewhat reckless when it comes to defending others or getting what she wants. She has a bad tendency of ignoring her own needs and overlooking her safety, resulting in her occasionally getting hurt or ill.

➣ She absolutely hates showing any kind of weakness in front of others, and easily grows restless when being forced to take care of herself.

➣ She's extremely concerned over her brother's mental health, and often goes to great lengths to make sure he's alright. She also discreetly confiscates any sharp objects in his room.

➣ Due to the trauma she faced as a young child, Hamuko absolutely hates the Dark Hour, feeling an intense dread every night when it occurs.

➣ The best way for her to counteract this fear is to fight, as staying active is a good distraction. Otherwise, she would rather not experience the Dark Hour at all, and dislikes staying up past midnight.

➣ As she usually goes to bed before midnight, as a way to avoid being active during the Dark Hour, Hamuko is quite the morning person.

➣ Her greatest fear is losing someone close to her. This is intensified by her position as co-leader of SEES, as she feels responsible for her teammates' safety.

➣ She recently brought a striped orange stray cat back to the dorm, which she named Aki (much to Akihiko's embarrassment).

➣ As it was her brother who absorbed the part of Thanatos that would manifest as the young boy Pharros, Hamuko doesn't receive his visits at night like Minato does. She can still see him, namely during their first encounter at the dorm, but she does not establish the Death social link arcana with him.

➣ After the battle with Nyx, Hamuko is aware that her life is forfeit. This fills her with an intense sense of despair, as she feels her future holds little meaning.

➣ While she blows off thoughts of romance claiming that she's "not interested", in truth, she's simply frightened of how her lack of a future would impact a potential partner.

Personality

On the surface, Hamuko appears to be a cheerful and energetic young girl, applying herself to all aspects of her life with vigor. She seems friendly and charismatic, always ready to take on whatever life may throw at her.

However, this is only a carefully practiced front.

In truth, Hamuko suffers from chronic depression, ongoing ever since the death of her parents. Coupled with survivor's guilt and trauma, Hamuko lives life day to day and with little hope for the future, only holding herself together for everyone else's sake.

Seeing how precarious her brother's emotional state has become after the accident, Hamuko has taken it upon herself to be his emotional support... unwittingly worsening her own mental state, as she refuses to acknowledge her own troubles. She fears that, should she ever show any weakness in front of Minato, she might end up losing him forever. As a result, she's become a seasoned liar, and an expert at hiding her true feelings.

When left alone, Hamuko will often break down and burst into tears, something she refuses to do in front of anyone else. Very rarely, she may also commit self-harm as a form of alleviating her feelings of despair.

Her self-esteem is also quite low. Although many people compliment her on her abilities, looks and personality, she secretly believes that none of it is actually true. She believes that her accomplishments are either overshadowed by others (especially her brother), or simply not true, and only a part of her front.

Despite all this, she does genuinely care for her brother and all of her friends, doing the best she can for their sakes. Since coming to the Iwatodai dorm and joining SEES, Hamuko has become a bit more lively and genuine in her cheerfulness - she finds herself actually enjoying her time there, rather than simply faking a smile.

Although she does often tease him, Hamuko sees Junpei as a good friend. They have a similar sense of humour, though Hamuko does occasionally find herself laughing at him rather than with him.

After her brother, Fuuka is the person Hamuko feels closest to on the team. She finds her a refreshing and uplifting presence, and can become very protective of her friend. After learning of Fuuka's feelings for her brother, Hamuko encourages her to keep getting close to him.

As his twin sister, Hamuko has spent her entire life by Minato's side. After she collapsed due to overexertion, causing Minato to worry for her safety, Hamuko resolved to take better care of herself for both their sakes.

Akihiko accompanied Hamuko to the back alleys of Port Island Station, where he protected her from a group of thugs who began to harass her. He helped her bring home a stray cat she'd secretly been feeding, promising to help take care of him.
Promising to protect and look after one another, the pair confessed their feelings at the dorm rooftop. The two now share a special bond...
